NPBA: Triple header rocks AF Adderley

THE calendar flipped to November and to a full six-game slate last weekend in the New Providence Basketball Association with triple headers on both Friday and Saturday night at AF Adderley Gymnasium.

The Rockets’ talented frontline won the battle on the boards and dominated en route to the lopsided win.

Livingston Munnings had 27 points and 18 rebounds - both game highs - while Danrad Knowles finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. In the backcourt, Able Joseph scored 13 while Georgio Walkes had eight points and a game high seven assists.

Carrington Dean led the Defenders with 21 points, Brandon Williams scored 18 while Windel Williams had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Rockets outrebounded the Defenders 69-52 and outscored them by 18 on points in the paint, (54-36). The Rockets took the lead for good on a Ryan Turnquest three-pointer at the 5:03 mark in the first quarter to go ahead 10-8. They would close the period on a 12-3 run and take a 19-11 lead into the second. They would outscore the Distributors 27-21 in the second to take a 46-32 lead at the half.

The Defenders never trimmed the deficit to less than eight in the second half as the lead ballooned to as much as 19.

University of the Bahamas Mingoes - 87

Leno Regulators - 68

The new-look Mingoes dominated in their season debut.

Robert Joseph led the Mingoes with 19 points, Kemsey Sylvestre nearly had a triple double with 12 points, nine rebounds and seven steals. Off the bench, Travaughn Nichols scored nine while Ruh-Shorn Strachan had seven points and eight rebounds in just under 15 minutes.

Kenneth Pratt had a double double for the Regulators with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Alexander Rolle scored 19, Hakeem Walkes scored 11 and Chico Francis had a game high 13 rebounds.

Rolle scored the first point of the game for an early three point Regulator lead, and answered a Christoff McKenzie three with another to take a 6-3 advantage. The Mingoes reeled off 12 unanswered points and closed the quarter on a 20-6 run to lead 25-12 headed into the second quarter.

The Mingoes had their highest scoring output in the second when they outscored the Regulators 29-15 and led by 27 at the break (54-27). The lead reached beyond 30 for the first time with Tyler Moncur’s three gave UB a 63-31 lead with 6:30 left to play in the third.

It would reach as much as 34 in the fourth.

UB shot 43 per cent from the field and limited the Regulators to 29 per cent. They also shot 40 per cent from three, but struggled at the line at just 33 per cent. The Mingoes also produced 51 points off the bench and scored nearly at will in the interior with 42 of their 87 points coming in the paint.

Asphalt Maintenance Pirates - 72

A balanced scoring attack from the Giants produced four players in double figures that outdueled a high scoring effort from the Pirates leader.

Alvano Miller led the Giants with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Dylan Musgrove scored 18, Adrian Thompson added 16 and Anderias Black finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Jefferson Oliver led the Pirates with 30 points and Antonio Hanna scored 10.

The Giants scored 68 of their 87 points in the paint and also scored 32 points off turnovers in another nearly wire-to-wire win on the night.
