PM unveils $1.5m farm, fishing relief

The prime minister yesterday said the Government plans to establish a $1.5m loan and grant initiative to help impacted farmers and fishermen recover from Hurricane Dorian.

The programme, which is also focused on persons in the boating industry, is targeted at entrepreneurs and businesses in the Special Economic Recovery Zones of Abaco and Grand Bahama.

The Prime Minister reiterated that the previously-announced VAT relief policy applies to Abaco, the Abaco Cays and Grand Bahama until June 2020.

“Under this new policy, individuals and businesses in the areas impacted directly by Hurricane Dorian will be exempt from the payment of value-added tax on a range of items related to reconstruction, rehabilitation and every day consumption,” Dr Hubert Minnis said.
