THE Bahamas had its best showing in the Ramon Baez Romano Trophy Flight for regular players and the country's six-man team finished third overall at the Caribbean Golf Association's 2019 Four-Ball Championships over the weekend.

The event was held at the Champion Course, PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach, Florida, from Thursday to Saturday.

Competing in one of three of the six divisions contested, the duo of Peter McIntosh and Lynford Miller shot rounds of 76-73-70 for their total of three-over-par 291 for second place in the Ramon Baez Romano Trophy Flight for players 35-and-over.

Puerto Rico, with the combo of Erick Morales and Tommy Smith, emerged as the winners with 70-67-68 for their 11-under-par 205 for the divisional title.

The Bahamas also got a fourth place finish in the Francis and Steele-Perkins Cup for men 50-and-over as Paul Bowe and Brodrick Pinder shot 77-78-72 for 11-over-par 227.

Jamaica took the divisional title as Sean Morris and Mark Newnham shot 65-68-69 for 14-under-par 202.

In the only other category contested, Raymond Gibson and Oswald Moore 79-77-81 for a 21-under-par 237. Winning that divisional title was Jamaica with a 74-74-72 four-over-par 220 from Dorrel Allen and Robert Chin.

The Bahamas, however, didn't have any participation in the Maria Nunes Trophy for ladies 35-and-over.

Nor did we take part in the Dessie Henry Trophy for ladies 50-and-over, which lowered his overall position for the Ambrose Gouthro Trophy for the top performing country.

That honour went to Jamaica, who secured the Francis & Steele-Perkins Cup, the Higgs & Higgs Trophy, the Maria Nunes Trophy and the Dessie Henry Trophy.

"Congratulations to Jamaica on winning the 2019 CGA-Fourball Championships," said Sidney Wolf, CGA president.

"I'm also very proud of runners-up Puerto Rico and winners in each category. All the golfers competed at their best this week despite weather challenges on the course."

With a field of 62 golfers from eight countries, the final overall standings saw Jamaica finish on top of the chart with 66 points.

Puerto Rico had 59 for second and the Bahamas was third with 36.

The Cayman Islands got fourth with 34, Barbados had 33 for fifth, Trinidad & Tobago was sixth with 21, Turks & Caicos Islands got seventh with 17 and US Virgin Islands completed the list with 11.
