THE Commando Security Truckers got a 5-3 win over the C&S Hitmen Tuesday night in the New Providence Softball Association Championships at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex. The Hitmen lead the best-of-seven series 3-2. Game six is set for 7pm tonight.

THE ladies’ champion was crowned while the men’s series was pushed to game six as the defending champions staved off elimination in the NPSA Championships.

At the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Tuesday night, the Commando Security Truckers scored a 5-3 win over the CS Hitmen and won their second consecutive game facing elimination.

The Hitmen took a three-game lead and were just a win away from the title but following two consecutive losses now lead the best-of-seven series 3-2.

Game six is set for tonight at 7pm.

The 2018 series was a memorable one between the two teams.

The Truckers faced seemingly insurmountable odds down 3-0 but played arguably their best softball of the season to win four consecutive games and complete the backdoor sweep in seven games.

On the ladies’ side, it wasn’t the four-game sweep they expected, but the Sunshine Auto Wildcats clinched their third straight NPSA title with an 11-10 win last night over the Inventive Intellects Lady Warriors in game five of the series.

“When you play with puppy they lick your mouth, we gave them one to say ‘ok have that’ but they got too biggity and presumptuous saying they will backdoor sweep the ‘Cats, never,” said Sunshine Wildcats veteran Renee Curry-Gaitors.

“When you back a cat up against a wall we come out clawing, they can’t beat us, no team out here can beat us,” she said.

Wildcats manager Anthony Bullard said after his team dropped game four, he guaranteed the win in game five to close out the series. “I told everyone to come Tuesday and if you didnt come Tuesday don’t look for Thursday,” he said. “I ran into a few people who said ‘boy your mouth hard’ but I told them ‘it’s Wildcats buddy. If you don’t come you’ll miss it.’

“I wasn’t taking any chances they got their one win they can take that and go.”

The pennant winning Wildcats finished 13-3 in the regular season.

“It’s written on my car, written on my shirt, it’s written and what is it was written,” team sponsor Sonny Cox said.

“We were trying for the dynasty. What happened last year when we saw Golden State fall apart. I had a speech and I told the girls that Golden State fell apart, they were gold too, but we said we will show Golden State how to do it and we got it done.”

Their focus now shifts to the Bahamas Softball Federation’s All-Star FastPitch Men and Ladies Championships and Hurricane Dorian Fundraiser November 1-3 at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
