NPBA: Rockets cut down Giants 92-79, Regulators earn 78-77 win over Shockers

THE Sun Oil Rockets and the Leno Regulators pulled off the New Providence Basketball Association’s doubleheader on Monday night at the AF Adderley Gymnasium.

In the men’s division II opener, the Rockets knocked off the TMT Giants 92-79, while the Regulators held off the JD’s Seafood Shockers 78-77 in the men’s division one feature game.

• Here’s a summary of the games played:

Regulators 78, Shockers 77: With 40 seconds left on the clock, Alexander Rolle scored a layup to push Leno up 78-74 as they held on for the win.

The Shockers came close to at least tying the score or pulling it off after Lenny Oscar canned a pair of free throws with 23 seconds. But after he was fouled on a three-point attempt with just .08 seconds on the clock, William Rigby converted just one of the three charity shots for the final digits.

Rolle, playing 22 minutes and 50 seconds, finished with 23 points as he shot 8-for-14 from the field, 2-for-4 from behind the three-point arc and 5-for-6 from the foul line. He also pulled down seven rebounds with two steals and two block shots.

Lloyd Bailey came off the bench and contributed 18 points, while Kenneth Pratt had 14 points and eight rebounds. Hakeem Walkes also came off the bench with 11 points and four rebounds.

JD’s opened a 19-8 first-quarter lead but held onto a 34-32 margin at the half. Leno kept it close with a 23-22 deficit in the third and they went on a 24-20 run in the fourth.

Rigby ended up scoring a game-high 26 points in 26:42 minutes on 5-for-10 from the field, 2-for-6 from the three-point line and 10-for-17 from the free-throw line to lead the Shockers. He also had eight rebounds and three steals.

Oscar helped out with 18 points, six rebounds and six assists, Lamont Amaly had eight points, six assists, six steals and three rebounds and Reginald Ferguson came off the bench with eight points and four rebounds.

Rockets 92, Giants 79

Lerecus Armbrister, in 29:27 minutes, produced a game-high 22 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the field, 2-for-4 from the three-point line and 6-for-8 from the foul line to pace Sun Oil to an easy victory.

Nathaniel Jean was one of three other players in double figures with 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Craig Gibson had 11 points, three steals and two rebounds and Crosley Wilmore came off the bench with 11 points and four rebounds.

After taking a 29-16 lead at the end of the first quarter, Sun Oil pushed their margin to 43-32 at the half. By the end of the third, they were fully in control with a 70-54 advantage. They cruised in the fourth after getting out-scored 25-22 by TMT.

For the Giants, Michael Bethel led their attack with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Preston Ferguson scored 15 points with five rebounds, two assists and two steals, D’Angelo Mackey added 11 points, three rebounds and two assist, Antonio Baptiste had nine points, 11 rebounds and three assists and Devon Bonaby Jr came off the bench with nine points.
