A MAN was arraigned in Grand Bahama yesterday accused of killing another man last Wednesday when the island was reeling from the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.
The Freeport resident was brought into a makeshift court at the new Sir Albert Miller fire station complex on Settler’s Way shortly after 10am.
The arraignment was held in the building’s garage - normally used as a holding area for fire trucks - where Deputy Chief Magistrate Debbye Ferguson sat behind a table, instead of her usual court bench.
The Garnett Levarity Justice Centre sustained severe flood damage as a result of storm surge during Hurricane Dorian, hence Magistrate Ferguson was relocated to the fire station to hear court matters.
Yesterday Ezrin Green was led into the garage to face the charge of murder. Green, a 36-year-old resident of Shackelton Lane, did not have an attorney present. It is alleged he, being concerned with others, caused the death of Clayton Bannister on September 4 at Eight Mile Rock.
He was not required to enter a plea to the charge and a preliminary inquiry will be held to determine if he will stand trial in the Supreme Court for murder.
Bail was denied but Green has the right to apply to the Supreme Court for pre-trial release.
The matter was adjourned to January 29, 2020. Green was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services in New Providence.
