WIDELY regarded as the greatest professional basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan has made the largest personal donation of any sports icon toward Hurricane Dorian relief.

A frequent visitor to Baker’s Bay in Abaco, Jordan announced his donation of $1 million dollars to assist the affected islands.

Jordan released a statement Tuesday through his spokeswoman and manager Estee Portnoy.

“I am devastated to see the destruction that Hurricane Dorian has brought to the Bahamas, where I own property and visit frequently,” Jordan said.

“My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering and those who have lost loved ones. As the recovery and relief efforts continue, I will be tracking the situation closely and working to identify non-profit agencies where the funds will have the most impact. The Bahamian people are strong and resilient and I hope that my donation will be of help as they work to recover from this catastrophic storm.

The six time NBA champion, six time NBA Finals MVP, five time league MVP and Hall of Famer says as the recovery and relief efforts continue, he will be tracking the situation closely and working to identify non-profit agencies where the funds will have the most impact.

Despite retiring from the league more than two decades ago, Jordan continues to be arguably the biggest icon in the sport.

His Jordan Brand dominated the market share of shoe deals, according to the latest report from Forbes’ ranking of the league’s biggest shoe deals in the last fiscal year.

Jordan earned $130 million from his Nike-owned shoe label. In second place, and top among active players, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers earned $32 million.
