Honouring Jennie Smith

EDITOR, The Tribune.

On Sunday, September 8, I am deeply sadden by the passing of my mother Jennie Smith, but I do know God has a place for her in Heaven. My mother was the pillar and foundation of our family with 12 kids – eleven boys and one girl. Their names are Tino, Roberto Romano Dino, Larry, Barry, Cyril, Erskine, Ambrose Richard and the only daughter, Jackie. With many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mom’s incredible impact on teaching her children the importance of having manners, moral standards, principles and to become somebody to make mom proud. Mom will live in our hearts, mind, spirit and soul, because of the invaluable and priceless contribution she made to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her legacy will live on forever as a great Bahamian Mom of The Bahamas. If mom did not make her children go to church every Sunday my life would never been impacted by God to write an inspired poem “My Dream for One Bahamas”.

A Bahamas, where there would be no hatred, but love. A Bahamas where there would be no dishonesty, but trust. A Bahamas where there would be no disloyalty, but sincerity. A Bahamas where there would be no injustice, but fairness. A Bahamas where there would be no degrading of one another, but respect for each other. A Bahamas where there would be no differences because of our belief or religion but being united as One Bahamas.

In dedication to my mother I am now in the early stages of planning to help and assist mothers financially affected by Hurricane Dorian in Abaco and Freeport, Grand Bahama, by launching a company to sell products with donations given to help mothers. May my mom’s soul rest in peace. Missed sadly by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Were the twelve children her biological children? If so, she was irresponsible.

Were the twelve children sired by several different men? If so, she was highly irresponsible.

Were most of (or all) twelve children adopted? If so, she's eligible for sainthood.
