Are we truly transparent?

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I suggest we admire the comment of the Prime Minister that his administration stands for accountability – transparency and is totally against corruption.

One of the guiding lights of seeing this in action is who the administration appoints and there is no doubt in certain cases all these meritorious are missing owing to the past record of the appointees.

Not to embarrass the personalities, a recent appointment where the person will be handling controlling maybe millions of dollars, that person has a chequered history firstly in the private sector and then in the public sector. We have to ask so why this person was appointed?

Another appointment some months ago after a resignation from a major civil society organisation and his resignation letter confirmed that if he stayed on he would bring embarrassment to that organisation. Well golly me after the person’s own admission this person is appointed to an OPM consultancy.

Do we take the accountability-transparency seriously? You judge.
