Power generation issue causes mobile outage

SOME Bahamas Telecommunications Company mobile customers complained of an inability to place calls or use data services yesterday.

Other customers also experienced issues making calls from landline phones.

In a brief statement yesterday morning, BTC explained the issue.

“BTC advises that some mobile customers may be experiencing call completion issues due to a power generation issue,” the company said in a Facebook post shortly before noon.

At the time, BTC assured customers that the problem would be resolved in two hours. However, the issue persisted well beyond that timeline and into the evening, with cellphone and landline users reporting that they continued to experience technical problems.

After 7pm, BTC posted another update to its Facebook page, saying the company was still having issues with its network: “We are continuing to work through our power generation issues. Data is fully operational. However, customers may still be experiencing call completion issues. We will continue to provide updates.”
