Williams in dire need of support after Dorian

VOGAL Williams has coached countless Bahamian student-athletes in just about every sporting discipline during a physical education career that has spanned more than five decades.

Now Williams is in dire need of support and he’s counting on those whom he helped since he was 18-years-old to lend a hand in helping him to restore his life in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.

Williams, 71, weathered the storm in his home off the SC Bootle Highway in Murphy Town, Abaco where he is still coaching as a substitute teacher, a profession he took up in 1966.

“I don’t know where to start, but I really need shingles and plywood and to get my generator started,” Williams said. “My roof was damaged and I got some interior damage to some of my furniture.

“I am on a solar system because BEC was not in there, so I have to get a generator to get my power up and running. Once I can do that, I can start repairing my roof.”

Persons interested in supplying Williams with the necessary building material can contact him at 466-8095. He is currently in New Providence visiting his daughter in Carmichael Road. But he would like to return to Abaco next week to start the restoration process on his home.

“If anyone knows about generators and how to get one restarted or if they can donate one, they can contact me,” Williams said.

During the passing of category 5 Hurricane Dorian, Williams said he stayed at home because he felt it was safe. He said he didn’t anticipate Murphy Town being affected the way it did. “I’m just glad that I am alive,” Williams said. “There are so many lives lost and so many homes that have been completely destroyed. I am alive and my house is still standing. I just need to get it repaired.”

Williams said he would be grateful for any assistance he can get in restoring his home and getting his life back to normalcy.
