VAT extension for Dorian-hit islands

The government has extended the deadline for filing September and October’s VAT returns to November 30, 2019, for businesses devastated by Hurricane Dorian.

The Department of Inland Revenue confirmed the extension for all VAT registrants on Abaco, the Abaco Cays and Grand Bahama should they need it.

It added that companies in the same storm-hit areas that wish to temporarily suspend operations are required to submit a change of circumstance request by October 30, 2019, for business licence purposes.

This request to temporarily suspend operations may be submitted either as a “change of circumstance” request case through the Online Tax Administration System (OTAS) account, or by completing and submitting the FORM 71 to the island administrator’s office on Abaco or at the Department of Inland Revenue office on either Grand Bahama or New Providence.

The FORM 71 is available online at https://inlandrevenue.finance.gov.bs/value-added-tax/forms/. The government encouraged VAT registrants holding funds for the government on the affected islands to make the required payments.
