Call on the commissioner

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Good morning Commissioner. First of all, my congratulations on your elevation. I predicted this on my radio talk show a few years ago when you were my special guest on MORE 94.9 FM. So said, so done. I have absolutely no doubt that you will live up to expectations and continue to serve the nation well.

Commissioner, at the major food stores, when persons are allowed to shop the lines are too long and there are usually not a single officer in sight for crowd control and to ensure social distancing. Why is this, sir?

Yesterday, during my drive/tours as a media representative there were scores of pedestrians who had on no face masks. Some of them, with all due respect, did not look too good - bums and derelicts, especially in the Coconut Grove and Englerston areas.

Besides breaching the declared and mandatory law, they defeated the whole purpose of leaving home - if they are in fact not homeless and were/are a clear and present danger to the wider society. Locking up people for breaching the curfew is one thing but not wearing a mask in plain daylight willy-nilly is even more dangerous. Please place some foot patrols in the inner city.

I note also that a dray load of police officers are interacting with the public but are not wearing PPE. Why is this? Has the officers on the RBPF been tested, inclusive of yourself, across the board for the COVID-19 pandemic? The results?

Lastly, I would have hoped that all of you who were creased right up in a recent photo opportunity upon your appointment, especially you who have been tasked with ensuring that the regulations relative to social distancing are followed, would have apologized to the people of this wonderful nation but, so far, total silence.

Stay safe but do your job please. Regards and respects.
