HARBOUR Island native Lashann Higgs produced another outstanding game, but it wasn’t enough to get her Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre PDM team back into the winning column in the women’s Spanish Professional Basketball League.

While she poured in 20 of her team high 27 points in the second half yesterday, Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre PDM suffered an 81-64 defeat to the still undefeated and league-leading Perfumerias Avenida as they returned home to the Bembibre Arena.

“I thought we played pretty well. I thought we competed, but it just didn’t result in a win,” said Higgs, who was coming off her career high of 32 points in their last game a week ago.

The 23-year-old graduate of the University of Texas feels she has found her shooting groove.

“I’m more confident and aggressive now because even in the games when I scored, I wasn’t shooting as well as I am now,” she reflected.

“So I think it’s the consistency and being aggressive and not getting down on myself when I missed a few shots in a row. I’m a lot more consistent right now.”

Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre PDM, however, has now suffered its 11th loss in 13 games and is near the bottom of the 16-team league, but Higgs said they are seeing an improvement as the season progresses.

“This is one of the top leagues in Europe and the top league in Spain, so it’s good competition,” she pointed out.

Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre PDM will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Estudiantes and Higgs hopes that they can get back on the winning track.

“Some days are more mentally exhausting than others, but it’s a matter of finding that space where you can rejuvenate, not just your mind, but your body as well,” she said. “It’s about finding that medium or middle ground.

“But for us as a team, regardless of the results, we are progressing and we are continuing to fight and to get better.”

With this being her first year as a professional, Higgs said she’s trying to soak up the entire experience and taking in as much as she can, despite the restrictions imposed by COVID-19.

In the meantime, Higgs said she and Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre PDM will continue to work towards improving their performance as a team and eventually in the standings.
