Mingoes hold off fightback

The University of the Bahamas Mingoes led the Leno Regulators by as much as 28 points, but in the fourth quarter of their New Providence Basketball Association’s division one match-up on Friday night, UB almost let the Regulators back in the game.

It was a series of games played over the weekend.

Mingoes 89, Regulators 82: Robert Joseph’s 27 point production, held off the fourth quarter push from Leno as the University of the Bahamas picked up the win.

The Mingoes led by 28 points (67-39) in the 3rd quarter off a Rashad Sturrup offensive rebound turned into a dunk with about 7:40 to go in the quarter.

The Regulators though started the fourth quarter off a 10-2 run and got close to the Mingoes.

The Mingoes though were able to hold on for the win and jump into the top spot of the Vince Ferguson division with an 11-2 record. The Discount Distributor Rockets have the same record but the Mingoes, by virtue of defeating The Rockets 82-80 November 23, 2020, hold the top spot.

Joseph said he wasn’t sure why his team lost focus in the end of the game but added they can’t let that happen again.

“At the end of the 3rd quarter going in to the 4th quarter we lost our composure because we only scored 11 and we gave away about 30 points and we got disconnected on defense,” he said. “The guys just started playing lazy they just was giving the guys easy points, probably fatigue. We can’t let that happen again and that’s something we have to work on in the near future.”

Sturrup lead the Mingoes with 15 rebounds and 12 points and agreed with Joseph. “We started to slack off and got lazy on the defense and had careless passes on offence. We have got to stay strong stay committed, play as a unit and play all the way through, be discipline and execute if we want to win when it counts.”

Kemsy Sylvestre had 13 points and Daniel Hall had 10 to aid The Mingoes in the win.

Alexander Rolle had 19 points and 14 rebounds in the loss for The Regulators. Lloyd Bailey put up 20 points and Kenneth Pratt contributed 17 points as well for The Regulators.

Rockets 104, Defenders 64: Ryan Turnquest had 21 points to lead the Discount Distributors to a balanced scoring attack as they easily won on Friday night.

Livingstone Munnings had 16 points, 10 rebounds and three assists; Randy Williams and Cordero Pinder both had 13 points and two rebounds; Able Joseph had 11 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and three steals; Dancel Knowles had eight points and eight rebounds; Georgio Walkes also had eight points with seven rebounds and five assists; Dominique Beadle had seven points, seven r3ebounds and three assists and Devon Ferguson had six points and seven rebounds.

Specialists 98, Wolverines 87: Colton Albury pumped in 23 points with 14 rebounds to lead the Uptown Cuts to victory on Saturday night.

Mitch Bain had 128 points, nine rebounds and six assists; Salathiel Dean had 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals; Stephan Burrows also had 12 points with five rebounds and five assists; Cordero Coakley had 11 points; Nico Scavella had six points and seven rebounds; Adorn Charlow had six points and six rebounds and Jeron Smith also had six points with six points and three rebounds.

In a losing effort for the Island Dimension & Development, Dominique Fernander had a game high 27 points with six rebounds, four steals and two blocks; Garvin Lightbourne had 17 points, six assists and four rebounds; Tomeko Moxey had 15 points, three rebounds nd three assists and Demetri Mackey added 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Shockers 87, Great Whites 65: Shamir Rolle scored 18 points with 15 rebounds and five assists to the JD’s Seafood to victory on Saturday night.

Spurgeon Johnson had 14 points and five rebounds; William Rigby had 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals; Reginald Ferguson also had 12 points with five rebounds; Brian Jennings had 10 points, five steals, three rebounds and two assists; Tamiko King also had 10 points, fived assists and three rebounds and Rameno King added nine points, 20 rebounds, five steals, two assists and two block shots.

Judinio Wilson led BIBT with 17 points. eight rebounds and as many assists; Trevez Hmilton had 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals; Stevon Thompson had 11 points and five rebounds and Jason Collie had nine points and five rebounds.

Rockets 103, Elites 92: Lerecus Armbrister poured in 20 points with four assists, three steals and two rebounds to lead the Sun Oil to victory in the division II matchup.

Collin Storr had 15 points and eight rebounds; Anthon Williams had 13 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists; Crosley Wilmore had 13 points, three assists and three rebounds; Nathaniel Jean had 10 points, eight rebounds and two steals and Craig Gibson had nine points, four steals, two rebounds and two assists.

For the Sports Center, Tario McK4enzie had a game high 21 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals; Simar Rolle had 20 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists; Maleak Johnson had 15 points and seven rebounds and Dario McKenzie had 13 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and four steals.

Pirates 96, Giants 79: Jefferson Oliver canned 21 points with five steals, four rebounds and two assists to pace the Asphalt Maintenance to victory in their division II encounter.

Antonio Hanna had 18 points, five rebounds and five assists; Valentino Simon had 17 points, four rebounds and four steals; Kamal Murphy had nine points and six rebounds; Savant Laing had eight points and seven rebounds; Uriah Rolle also had eight points and six rebounds and Marcian Higgins had six points and five rebounds.

In a losing effort for TMT, Deangelo Mackey had 17 points, three rebounds and three assists; Devon Bonaby Jr had 13 points and five rebounds; Taleo Bethel had 12 points, three steals and two rebounds; Michael Bethel had nine points and 11 rebounds; Cameron Strachan had seven points, 18 rebounds, three assists and two steals and Preston Ferguson had six points, six rebounds and three steals.
