First MSC graduate joins cruise vessel

The first of 220 Grand Bahamians training to work on Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) cruise ships has taken his post after the vessel docked in Freeport Harbour.

The MSC Divina welcomed Raymond Campbell to its crew last Tuesday as part of the MSC Cruises Employment Initiative, a joint effort with the Office of the Prime Minister.

He is the first of 220 Grand Bahamians who will have the opportunity to train, and then work on, one of MSC’s cruise ships.

With 60 nationalities represented on the ship, it has the capacity to hold 4,400 passengers and 1,300 crew members.

Representing the Prime Minister’s office in Grand Bahama were Clothilda Whymns, first assistant secretary; Lady Naomi Wallace-Whitfield, office manager; and other support staff.

MSC has agreed to hire the Grand Bahamians in the areas of food and beverage, housekeeping, galley and entertainment. Successful candidates will be trained in April.
