Second defeat for Bahamas in Davis Cup contest

The Bahamas two-member team of Dentry Mortimer Jr and Anthony Burrows Jr suffered their second consecutive loss at the Junior Davis Cup competition in El Salvador.

The team, coached by Jared Turnquest, lost to El Salvador on Monday. Both Mortimer Jr and Burrows Jr lost their single matches as well as when they teamed up to play doubles.

Turnquest said despite the loss, the team played very well.

“In fact, I was very pleased with the way that Dentry and Anthony played in doubles,” Turnquest said. “There was a period in that match where I thought we were going to pull it out. But the boys felt a little short.”

Turnquest said after the loss, the team had a strong practice session and they re now more eager to play Suriname in their third match today in the final day of pool play. Based on their win-loss record, The Bahamas will get matched up in the tournament play for its final rankings over the final four days of competition.

The team lost its opening match on Sunday to Trinidad & Tobago.
