CHARLES Bain posted a season high scoring effort to lead his Robert Morris Colonials to a fifth straight win in the Northeastern Conference.

Bain finished with 16 points in the Colonials’ 61-58 win on the road over Sacred Heart.

The junior forward shot 6-10 from the field, including 4-7 from beyond the arc.

The Colonials improved to 14-10.

“The job Charles did on E.J. Anosike, allowing him to get just one offensive rebound, was great work,” Colonials head coach Andrew Toole said. “So as well as he played offensively, he really stepped up on the defensive end. I thought one of the best things our guys did throughout the game was moving their feet. They were relentless in their effort. It really was a great defensive performance.”

Bain’s layup at the 2:33 mark in the second half gave the Colonials a 55-46 lead before Sacred Heart closed the gap on a 7-0 run and came within two with 41 seconds left to play.

After Robert Morris tacked on a pair of free throws Bain came up with a steal and fastbreak dunk to put the game away.

“One of the best possessions we had was the layup Bain hit late,” Toole said. “We just have to execute possession by possession, both on the offensive and defensive ends. That was a Northeast Conference Tournament type of game.”

This season he has struggled, averaging 6.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

As a sophomore last season, Bain averaged 10.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He started all 34 appearances, shot 46 per cent from the field and 36 per cent from beyond the arc in just over 24 minutes per game.
