NPWBA: Rockettes in the win column

THE Discount Distributors Rockettes won the lone game played in the New Providence Women’s Basketball Association at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Saturday night.

The Rockettes prevailed with a 62-54 decision over the Arawaks.

Christine Sinclair, playing 36 minutes and 53 seconds, led the attack for the Rockettes with 19 points. She was 9-for-18 from the field and 1-for-3 from the free throw line. She also pulled down 10 rebounds, dished out four assists and two steals.

Shadell Williams helped out with 14 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals. Tiffany Wildgoose had eight points, nine rebounds, three assists, a steal and a blocked shot.

Taneil Poitier had seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Liana Rolle had six points and six rebounds and both Latondra Brown and Tanea Bowleg contributed four points.

The Arawaks got off to a great start with a 10-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, but they watched as the Rockettes soared back for a slim 25-23 advantage at the half. By the end of the third quarter, the Rockettes had blasted off to a 42-36 cushion and they coasted along the way in the fourth.

Kevinique Culmer exploded for a game high 30 points with nine rebounds and a steal to pace the Arawaks.

Firnethra Brown had eight points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals, Tonica Gardiner helped out with six points, 13 rebounds and two assists. Both Philencia Harris and Ashante Strachan had four points with nine and seven rebounds respectively.
