SHELTON Williams will have the opportunity to compete against the top football players in Canada as they get set to showcase their skills in the hopes of eventually earning a spot on a Canadian Football League roster.
Williams was invited to the CFL’s Eastern Regional Combine, in Baie-D’Urfé, Quebec, Canada, March 13.
The league will host three regional combines, (Ontario Regional – March 12 in Toronto and Western Regional – March 20 in Edmonton).
At the regionals, players will perform drills and be measured and tested on several variables by league coaches, general managers and player personnel.
The top players from each region will then be selected for the CFL Combine presented by New Era, March 26-28 in Toronto.
This year will mark the eighth consecutive offseason since the league implemented the regional showcases as a part of the evaluation process. The CFL Combine traditionally features the top prospects for the upcoming CFL Draft and the top players selected from the CFL Global Draft.
According to the CFL at the National Combine, players will undergo “medical examinations, performance, strength and speed tests, on-field football drills and team interviews over the two day combine in front of general managers, coaches and scouts from all teams.”
Williams recently completed his collegiate career on the gridiron for the Acadia Axemen in the Atlantic University Sport conference. The 6’6” 300 offensive lineman made starts at both guard and tackle over the course of his career.
In his final season, Williams anchored an Axemen offensive line that led the team to an AUS Championship.
Once he left the Bahamas to pursue his academic and athletic career, Williams was a member of the Champagnat Lions programme in Miami, Florida.
After completing the prep level, he matriculated to Holland, College on Prince Edward Island, Canada where he was a member of two Moosehead Cup trophy winning teams.
