NPBA: Undefeated Giants rout Specialists 101-71

THE Commonwealth Bank Giants are still undefeated after routing the Uptown Cuts Specialists in one of the two games played in the New Providence Basketball Association on Monday night.

In the earlier game played at the AF Adderley Gymnasium, the Asphalt Maintenance Pirates held off the Sports Centre Elites 90-84 in a division II encounter.

Giants 101,

Specialists 71

Adam Johnson led three other players in doubles figures with 28 points, 10 rebounds and two steals as they pushed their unblemished win-loss record to 9-0.

The loss dropped Uptown Cuts to 2-6.

D'Shon Taylor canned 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals to help out, while Jeffery Henfield came off the bench with 14 points and Jackson Jacob chipped in with 12 points, four assists, three steals and two rebounds.

The Giants opened a 27-17 tear in the first quarter and extended their lead to 51-37 at the half. At the end of the third period, they extended their margin to 78-52.

They used a 23-19 spurt in the fourth to stay ahead of their rivals.

Mitch Bain led the Uptown Cuts with 21 points, five assists and four rebounds.

Salathiel Dean had 14 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Stephen Burrows helped out with 10 points, three assists and two rebounds.

Pirates 90,

Elites 84

Valentino Simon exploded for a side-high 26 points, shooting 10-for-15 from the field and 6-for-9 from the foul line. He also had 16 rebounds to lead Asphalt Maintenance as they climbed to 5-3.

Jefferson Oliver had 19 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two assists, Kamal Murphy had 15 points, three rebounds and two steals and Sherman Marshall came off the bench with nine points, six rebounds and three assists.

After trailing 30-21 at the end of the first quarter, Asphalt Maintenance rebounded to even the score 44-44 at the half. With a 26-19 spurt in the third, the Pirates surged ahead 70-63 and they were outscored 21-20 by the Elites as they held on the for the win. Tario McKenzie produced a game-high 28 points on 7-of-21 from the field and 13-for-18 from the charity stripe, but it wasn't enough for the Sports Center, who fell to 3-3.

Lorenzo Archer had 16 points and 14 rebounds, twin brother Dario McKenzie had 14 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and three steals and Cory Deveaux came off the bench with 14 points and seven rebounds with two steals and a pair of blocked shots.
