A magistrate ordered a man to fully compensate another man whose furniture he damaged earlier this week.

Marlin Smith, 20, was accused of causing $807.97 damage to a man’s 32-inch Samsung TV and two tables on July 27.

He pleaded guilty during a hearing before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt yesterday and was conditional discharged on the agreement he would reimburse the complainant for the damages he caused to his belongings.

When given an opportunity to speak during the hearing, Smith told the magistrate even though he was under the influence of alcohol when he committed the offense, he took full responsibility for his actions.

In response, Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt told Smith he needed to “run away” from whatever beverage he was drinking that night. She also warned the defendant if he failed to compensate the complainant, he would spend three months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
