Final spot on Davis Cup team to be decided this weekend

THE Bahamas Davis Cup has obtained a level of success over the last five years with two wins in Group III Americas, and Promotion plays in Group II in 2018.

This year, the Bahamas top player who is ranked in the 700s on the International Tennis Circuit (Under 800 Automatic Placement Rule) will join the team for the first time.

Justin Lunn secured singles and doubles wins on the ITF pro circuit over the last year and has expressed his excitement in having the opportunity to compete for the Bahamas in Davis Cup.

Kevin Major Jr, who boasts a 49-1 record on the Florida Men's Circuit, was the winner of the 2019 Giorgio Baldacci Open and most recent 2016 Davis Cup member, joins the team.

Baker Newman, the 2019 Open runner up and 2016 and 2019 Davis Cup member, is the third member named to the team.

Who will join Roberts, Major Jr and Newman to round out an eclectic and talent-filled team? The final spot on the 2020 Davis Cup team will be decided this weekend at the National Tennis Centre.

FED CUP

The stage has been set: FedCup 2020 in Panama. The time is locked in: June 2020. Now the final two members of the Bahamas team will be decided this weekend at the National Tennis Centre.

Let us remind you of who has qualified already - Kerrie Cartwright (winner) and Sydney Clarke (runner up), the two top finishers in the 2019 Giorgio Baldacci Open.

Both Cartwright and Clarke represented the Bahamas admirably in the 2019 Fed Cup in Peru where the Bahamas played the host country in the championship round, closing out in the second spot at the end of the competition.

Cartwright and Clarke await the other two members who will be decided in a round-robin play - the four will then form the 2020 Fed Cup Team.

"You are cordially invited to come and support our athletes who are participating to book a golden ticket to the most prestigious international team event for Men's Tennis (Davis Cup) and Women's Tennis (Fed Cup). They play for the opportunity to represent their country on the world stage. Round Robin Matchplay will start today at 9:30am at the National Tennis Centre and resumes Saturday morning at 9:30am. The top finisher in the men and the top two women will join Team Bahamas.
