Commission suspends its on-site examinations

The Securities Commission yesterday said it has suspended all “routine” on-site examinations of its capital markets and investment funds licensees in response to the coronavirus epidemic.

The financial services regulator, confirming that the suspension was “immediate” and will remain in effect until April 14, 2020, added that its off-site supervisory activities will continue as it prepares to initiate the “2020 schedule thematic reviews in the coming weeks”.

“Details regarding off-site thematic reviews will be advised to registrants and licensees, and they are reminded that the commission’s 2020 examination priorities have been circulated and are available on [the] website,” the Securities Commission added.

While the regulator will continue to operate during normal business hours, the Securities Commission said it will also cease hosting in-person meetings with third parties, including registrants and licensees.
