Freeport man, 28, on murder charge

A 28-year-old Freeport man was charged with murder in the Eight Mile Rock Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Claude Valsaint, of No 6 Maxim Court, appeared before Magistrate’s Gwendolyn Claude. It is alleged that on March 12, at Eight Mile Rock, the accused intentionally caused the death of a man. Valsaint was not required to enter a plea to the charge of murder. He was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to June 17.

In other court matters, four men were charged with possession of the firearm with intent to endanger life. Hayward Johnson Jr, 21, of No 99B Gordon Avenue; Steve Derosier, 28, of No 3 Limewood Lane; Kendrick Colebrooke, 32, of No 69 Frobisher Circle; and Daquan Beckles, 18, of No 147 Beaconsfield, were charged before Rengin Johnson in Court Three.

They were charged with two counts of possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger life, two counts of possession of firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence; causing damage and possession of ammunition.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and were denied bail. The matter was adjourned to June 2, 2020.
