The National Insurance Board (NIB) has paid out almost $17m in unemployment benefits to over 20,000 claimants, its director said yesterday.

Dr Nicola Virgil-Rolle told Tribune Business: “As of last week Thursday afternoon it was 20,672 persons paid and $16.86m paid out.” She was unable to give figures for benefit applications that have been stalled or rejected, adding: “We are working through many that are rejected in terms of working with the companies through the process.”

Brensil Rolle, minister for the public service with responsibility for NIB, last month said NIB was still waiting on 2,500 claims that are in need of “contributions statement” from employers. He encouraged employers to fill out their C10 forms properly for the month of March.
