TWO men were taken to court yesterday to face vagrancy charges.
Dudley Smith, 30, appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis after officers found him in the Stewfish Drive area on April 29 and had reason to suspect he was planning to commit an offence. He pleaded guilty and was discharged with a warning.
Prosecutor Kendrick Bauld told the court the defendant’s ex-girlfriend had called the Carmichael Police Station to report that her former boyfriend was making a disturbance at her home. Sgt Bauld said by the time officers arrived on the scene, Smith had already left.
Sgt Bauld said the woman told them Smith had damaged her windows. He added that the woman declined to make a formal complaint about the damage.
During the hearing, Smith told the magistrate the incident occurred because he had an argument with his baby’s mother. He insisted he had already paid for the windows to be repaired and apologised for his actions. After he was discharged, he promised Magistrate Rolle-Davis he “would never see him again.”
Meanwhile, 57-year-old Sonny Rolle was charged with vagrancy after officers found him on West Hill Street on May 6. He pleaded not guilty and the matter was adjourned to today for trial. Rolle was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services in the interim.
