One returnee creates a bit of a storm

BAHAMIANS reacted critically as a video of a woman staying at Breezes went viral over the weekend. The woman was among the residents who returned to the country on Friday after being stuck in the United States during the COVID-19 lockdown.

In the video the woman says: “Well guys I just came in off the flight from the United States. This is our first day in Nassau at Breezes hotel. This is what they give us to eat. This is the food Mr Munroe that they give us to eat, we as Bahamians. Look, the room is so moldy, defence force officer outside, you could see him under the cabana. I had to open the room door so air coulda come in here. The bed is very hard. These are the little things they give ya, these are the supplies they give ya to say bathe, this is the supplies they give ya to say bathe, this is your package kit, your hygiene package kit, this is the two tissue, this is the hand sanitizer, they say this ya chloral, I don’t know mussy China or Spain, say disinfect wipes, then this the broom with no handle say sweep. This the old cloth they give ya to mop with. And this the water, the water look like it been in storage for so long, it so dirty on the top, so God help us, I don’t know, if they could let the Americans come in, who bring them mussy 2000, 3000 swabs and gone home and quarantine, when the embassy or counsel general call us they say since we are negative that we coulda gone home and quarantine. When we reach the airport we had to check our bags in the hot sun on the runway, then immigration take everybody passport which came on the morning flight. Chile I don’t know, they say it’s the people’s time, it really is the people’s time, I guess I suppose to be living in the back of Lyford Cay.”

While some on social media defended the women, many criticised her.

One person said: “Can’t plz ungrateful ppl.”

Another said: “You should record your face so I could see the person that is so ungrateful smh. Think before you talk.”

Another person said: “Man this woman can’t be serious. Miss you just showed the whole world how silly you are…wow!” • Non-profit organisations recently estimated as many as 100,000 people are in a food crisis situation in The Bahamas as a result of the pandemic.

Thousands are also facing difficulties paying rent, mortgages and utility bills.

The passenger who was complaining had her flight paid for by the government along with her stay at Breezes Hotel while she and her baby are in quarantine.
