A 35-year-old man, found by police with a marijuana joint yesterday, was put on probation for one year.
Police arrested Galen Ford, Jr, after they found four grams of marijuana in one of his pant’s pockets on November 6.
The court was told that around 9.15 that night, officers on mobile patrol stopped and spoke with Mr Ford about breaking the curfew.
The prosecution said the accused got angry and started shouting at officers when they questioned him. When they warned Mr Ford to stop, he refused and was subsequently detained. When the officers searched him, they found the marijuana joint in his pocket.
As a result, he was taken to a nearby police station where he was questioned about the marijuana. During his interview with police, Mr Ford denied being disorderly, but admitted to being loud. He also said the marijuana joint, which had a $10 street value, belonged to him.
During the hearing, Mr Ford was represented by attorney Jomo Campbell. He told the magistrate that his client did not want to waste the court’s time. He also said his client acknowledged that he spoke loudly when the police first stopped him and insisted that he was very sorry for what he had done.
As a result, Magistrate McKinney put Mr Ford on probation for one year. He warned him that if he failed to comply with the conditions of his release, he would be fined $500 for simple possession and $25 for behaving in a disorderly manner.
