A MAN who threw a rock through his ex-girlfriend’s window was yesterday fined $500 and ordered to pay her $350 in compensation.

Jason Pinder, 57, was also accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend on November 8.

He pleaded guilty during a hearing before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

The prosecution said that around 1.17am on November 8, Pinder’s ex-girlfriend was in bed when she heard the accused call her name through her bedroom window. The court was told that when she did not answer, Pinder threw a rock through her window.

At the time, the woman was lying in her bed and felt the object hit her in her face, near her eyes. She immediately got up and noticed the accused outside through her broken window.

After she filed a complaint with police, Pinder was arrested. In an interview at a nearby station he admitted the offence.

When given an opportunity to speak during the hearing, Pinder told the magistrate that he had had a few drinks before he went to his ex-girlfriend’s house that night. He also said “she knew that he didn’t mean to do it” and insisted he was sorry for his actions.

As a result, Magistrate McKinney accepted Pinder’s guilty plea and fined him $500 or three months in prison. He further ordered the accused to keep the peace for one year and to pay his ex-girlfriend $350 for her injuries. If he fails to do so, he could risk spending three months behind bars.
