A 26-year-old man who assaulted another man at a local gas station was yesterday ordered to perform 80 hours of community service.
Donnovan Rolle appeared before Magistrate Ambrose Armbrister after he was accused of beating up another man at On the Run gas station, Carmichael Road on November 6.
The prosecution said that around 4 o’clock that afternoon, the complainant was at the gas station when Rolle and another man, whom he did not know, entered. Rolle punched and kicked him about the body causing him to bleed and swell. After the complainant reported the matter to police, Rolle was arrested. In an interview with police at a nearby station, he admitted the offence.
During the hearing, Rolle pleaded guilty. He was represented by attorney Ian Cargill. He told the magistrate the dispute had occurred over money and noted his client cooperated with police from the onset of the investigation by admitting the part he had played in the incident.
As a result, Magistrate Armbrister ordered Rolle to complete 80 hours of community service. He warned that if he didn’t, he would be fined $400 or ordered spend one month at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
