A 25-year-old man who was accused of killing another man last month by driving recklessly was granted $10,000 bail ahead of his trial.
Rashard Newman was charged with one count of killing in the course of dangerous driving.
The prosecution alleged that around 9.50 o’clock on the night in question, Newman drove his vehicle along East Bay Street in a manner dangerous to the public, which ultimately led to the death of Devon Johnson on September 15.
He denied the allegation in a hearing before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis yesterday.
During the arraignment, Newman was also charged with driving without insurance as well as driving without a valid driver’s licence.
He pleaded guilty to those charges. However, because he denied the first charge, Magistrate Rolle-Davis adjourned the matter to December 14 for trial.
In the meantime, Newman was granted $10,000 bail.
