A job done

EDITOR, The Tribune.

You may recall my letter to The Tribune of 23/11/2018 on the topic of Eastern Cemetery Lane. I am delighted to share the content of an e-mail received this morning, from the Minister of Works, and my humble reply.

Good morning Mr Raine:

I write to thank you for your prolonged and sustained twelve year campaign to ensure that East Cemetery lane is restored.

I wish to advise that with the help and guidance of both Mr Symonette and Minister D’Aguilar, Cabinet has now agreed to fully restore and pave this historic road. We anticipate that a contractor will be mobilized in due course, and that before the end of 2020 you will be able to see the full restoration take place.

My sincere thanks for your determination to take a principled stance, and to persist for so many years.

Desmond Bannister”

Good morning Minister Bannister. I am certainly delighted to hear this wonderful news, and thank you very much for it. May I also say that over the many years that I have communicated with your Ministry, on one thing or another, you are the first and only Minister that has ever taken the time, or had the interest, to communicate with me. For that I am most appreciative, sir.

It will indeed be a blessing to everyone driving in this section of town, to be able to go from East Bay Street to Shirley Street, without having to fight their way through the shopping centre, or drive all the way around Fort Montagu.

I am indeed very much obliged to you.

Bruce R Raine Banister and his FNM party listen to you and those of your hue. But poor black folks from over the hill have no voice.

Did they have a voice when the PLP was in Power---I don't think so!
