A 41-year-old man was placed on a year’s probation and ordered to compensate another man after he broke his windshield with a rock last week.
Fred Ramsey appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis after he was accused of causing $500 worth of damage to Ricardo Decius’ 2009 Teana on September 2.
The court heard Mr Decius, who was riding with his brother and another occupant that day, was traveling east on Wulff Road. The prosecution said as he approached JBR Hardware Store, Mr Decius’ brother noticed the defendant walking and pointed him out as a person who was responsible for stealing some items.
As a result, Mr Decius pulled into the Wulff Road police station. As he was doing so, he heard a loud crashing sound and realised that Ramsey had thrown a rock at his windshield. Mr Decius then gave chase, but Ramsey managed to run into the police station. He was subsequently arrested for damaging the complainant’s car. During his interview with police, Ramsey said he was walking from work and admitted to throwing rocks at Mr Decius’ vehicle. Still, he claimed the complainant and his passengers were also throwing pears at him during the ordeal.
During the hearing yesterday, Ramsey admitted to the offence. After accepting his guilty plea, Magistrate Rolle-Davis placed him on 12 months’ probation and ordered him to pay for the damage to Mr Decius’ car. He warned him if he failed to do so, he could risk spending five months in prison.
