POLICE Commissioner Paul Rolle said he was “offended by the comments” made by an individual in a video that circulated on social media this week.

A statement released by the Royal Bahamas Police Force on Tuesday revealed the Commissioner reported the video, which makes “spurious allegations” against him, to the Criminal Investigation Department as he “takes these attacks on his reputation seriously”.

While speaking on the sidelines of the dedication service of the new Police Chapel at Police Headquarters yesterday, the police chief further commented on the allegations.

He said: “My comment is that blessed are those who are reviled for righteousness sake when men will rise up and tell all manner of lies against you. So I feel blessed, I’ve turned the matter over to CID and I believe CID will do what they have to do. I don’t indulge in nonsense.”

When asked if he denied the allegations, he responded: “I say I don’t indulge in nonsense, you understand me? CID is investigating it. I have nothing to deny. If he made the allegation, he should bring his facts and in the absence of that I think we have to be respectful. I don’t want to go any further with that because I’m offended by the comments and I’ve made the complaint.”

The police statement indicated that although the Commissioner stresses people have a right to free speech in the country, “they do not have an exclusive right to make malicious and defamatory statements about anyone, so as to cause hurt or unnecessary pain”.

Police previously noted the individual who made the video was not in custody.
