EXTRADITION proceedings for Peter Nygard have been scheduled to take place in Canada on November 15.

Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York charged the 79-year-old with racketeering and sexual assault offences in December.

They said Nygard’s conduct arose “out of a decades-long pattern of criminal conduct involving at least dozens of victims in the United States, The Bahamas and Canada, among other locations.”

Experts say, however, it could take several years before Nygard exhausts potential appeals in the case.

The fashion mogul is still behind bars following his arrest after his bail application was denied and his appeal was dismissed.

CBC Canada has reported that the Attorney General will “present the record to the case based on materials from the prosecutor in the United States to show that the evidence is sufficient to warrant bringing charges in Canada if those actions had happened in Canada.”

“The judge just simply has to think whether or not the conduct of Mr Nygard in the United States would have amounted to criminal charges here in Canada. And if so, then extradition must follow,” Canadian lawyer Gary Botting said. He reportedly said it could take up to three years before Nygard exhausts all appeal avenues if a Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench justice ruled in favour of extraditing him.
