Man accused of attack on police officer

A 34-YEAR-OLD man was charged with assaulting a police officer, causing damage, making death threats, resisting arrest and using obscene language.

Theo Astwood, 36, of Hillary Avenue, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Debbye Ferguson yesterday. He was represented by Wendell Smith.

It is alleged that on April 16, the accused unlawfully assaulted Police Officer 3922 Duford with a motor vehicle.

On the same date and place, Astwood is said to have intentionally caused material damage to a Samsung cellular phone, a watch, police cyclist boot, and Oakley sunglasses, the property of Officer Duford, valued at $1,035.95.

Astwood is also accused of threatening the officer with death, putting him in fear of his life.

Astwood was also charged with resisting arrest and using obscene language. On the same date and place, the accused is accused of resisting arrest by Officer Duford while in the execution of his duties, and used obscene language to the annoyance of the officer.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and elected summary trial. He was granted $2,000 signed bail and the matters were adjourned to June 21.
