A 23-year-old man was yesterday charged with murder in connection with a stabbing incident that left one man dead last week.

Nicholas McKinney appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt charged with the death of Alexander Coakley on April 12.

According to initial police reports, shortly after 5pm that day, police were told two men were involved in an argument on Key West Street.

“This resulted in one of the males stabbing the other with a knife several times about the body,” police said. “The victim was transported to the hospital via a private vehicle, where he later succumbed to his injuries.”

During the hearing, McKinney was not required to enter a plea and the matter was adjourned to July 1 for the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

In the meantime, he was denied bail and remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

He has a right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
