A Bahamian man accused of breaching the Immigration Act was charged in Freeport on Wednesday.
Barry Smith, 52, who appeared before Magistrate LaQuay Laing, was charged with employing someone without a work permit.
According to the prosecution, the accused was found in Freeport carrying out work with an undocumented immigrant who did not have a work permit.
Smith told the judge he was not aware that the Haitian man did not have a work permit.
He pleaded guilty to the charge. Magistrate Laing convicted Smith and fined him $750 or, in default, he would serve three months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
