A MAN whose arrest by police was widely seen on social media was yesterday remanded into custody pending a psychiatric evaluation.

Jeremy Archer, of no fixed address, appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle Davis accused of assaulting and cursing two police officers on July 29.

The prosecution said Archer was approached by Police Constable 3947 Deleveaux and PC 3930 Hield after he was caught behaving in a disorderly manner. They said when the officers asked him to stop, he began using obscene language and resisted arrest when PC Hield and PC Deleveaux attempted to detain him. It is also alleged that Archer assaulted the two officers during the incident.

During his hearing, Archer appeared to be incoherent and rambled when he was asked to enter a plea to the charges.

As a result, Magistrate Rolle Davis said he would remand him so that he can be evaluated at the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre before he recorded his pleas.

Archer returns to court on September 28 for the continuation of his case.
