BACK in the lineup after a brief sting on the 10-day injury reserve list, Bahamian shortstop Jasrado ‘Jazz’ Chisholm added to his glaring season with two impressive outings for the Miami Marlins over the weekend.

Returning to his starting role in shortstop on Saturday, Chisholm, batting fifth in the lineup, went 1-for-4 with a run scored. He came through in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 4-4 tie on a fielder’s choice from Brian Anderson in their second straight home game at the loanDepot Park.

Lewis Brinson eventually came home with the game-winning run on a Magneuris Sierra single to shallow right field for a 5-4 win over the Chicago Cubs. Then on Sunday, Chisholm ripped his 12th home run of the season - his first since Independence Day on July 10 - with a solo blast in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the Marlins’ lead to 2-0 before they went on to finish off the Cubs 4-1 on a pair of runs in the seventh inning.

In completing a sweep of the Cubs, the Marlins pushed their Major League record to 51-67 for fourth place in the National League’s Eastern Division, extending their winning streak to four games.

In Saturday’s win, Chisholm Jr led off the inning with a double and a pair of fielding errors from Cubs shortstop Sergio Alcantara allowed both Brinson and Anderson to reach base while simultaneously allowing Chisholm to get to third and ultimately score the game-tying run.

Sierra, who entered the game as a defensive replacement, then sent a 1-2 changeup from Cody Heuer through the right side to score Brinson from second base for the game winning run.

Chisholm, 23, was reactivated from the 10-day injured list on Friday when the Marlins won 14-10 in their opener against the Cubs. He was limited to just a pinch hitting role offensively, while defensively, he got back on the field completing the game in shortstop. The right-hander, who bats from the left side, currently holds a .254 batting average. He is 77-for-303 at the plate with 12 homers and 11 stolen bases, scoring a total of 44 runs with 37 RBI (runs batted in).

And in Sunday’s win for Miami, Chisholm went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. His solo shot came off starting and losing pitcher Alec Mills on the first pitch in the sixth innings.

He came back in the seventh and got his second hit off relief pitcher Jake Jewell before he caught a ride home on first baseman Jesus Aguilar’s two-run homer to cushion the 4-1 lead for the Marlins.

The Marlins will host the Atlanta Braves in a three-game series that starts today and continues through Wednesday. They will then return for a four-game road trip against the Cincinnati Reds from Thursday to Sunday.
