Keep the Queen

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Our family purchased a property and made investments in The Bahamas after consultation with your Government Investment Authority and Nassau lawyers. We were told that our investments would be safe and secure because Queen Elizabeth was Head of State and there was a British style Parliament and Court system. Based on these reassurances we went ahead with transactions.

How disgusted we are at the news item broadcast here two days ago that your Prime Minister and various MP’s were all arguing as to whom credit should be given for the Government removing The Queen’s portrait from your $100 banknote. What terrible and unsettling publicity for The Bahamas. Recently here in Canada our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated his and his late father former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau’s beliefs that “as long as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth serves as our Head of State she is deserving of every honour and respect”. What a different attitude than the disturbing behaviour of your Parliamentarians in Nassau the other day. Through a long life of constant assistance and devoted service to the Commonwealth and people of every ethnic background the Queen has earned the respect of all citizens.

In Canada The Queen appears on our most used $20 banknote and historical persons on the other notes.

I sincerely hope that this action of your Government will be immediately corrected and a higher denomination note bearing our Queen’s image will be introduced. It makes us and other investors with whom we have spoken very shocked about your action and very unsettled. We have always believed that The Bahamas has a high international standard. Let us hope that The Bahamas has not started on a path towards an unstable third world nation of which there are far too many in the world today. We feel very concerned to read such disturbing news from Nassau.

... we are not a nation that breeds visionary leaders and statesmen, we breed shortsighted politicians!

A very good letter ! Let us hope that The Prime Minister and the Central Bank Governor will take action to issue a higher denomination banknote with The Queen's portrait. We should honour both our national heroes and our Head of State similar to what is the situation in many Commonwealth countries like Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Surprised that the Radical Priest, Tribanon and all the rest of our xzenophobic morons haven't weighed in mightily on such a weighty subject. Lol.
