A CONTRACTOR who damaged his ex-girlfriend’s AC unit was yesterday ordered to attend anger management classes and pay for the repairs.

Police said Nvaughn Wright, 36, damaged the window screen of his former partner’s bedroom after he trespassed on the property where she was living on August 11.

The court was told that the accused’s ex-girlfriend lived with her aunt, who was the complainant in the matter.

According to court dockets, Wright returned to the residence without permission on August 15, where he caused $1,280 worth of damage to the AC unit in his former girlfriend’s room.

When he appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt yesterday, he owned up to the offences.

His attorney told the magistrate his client only acted in an “instance of anger” towards his ex-girlfriend. He insisted Wright was remorseful for his actions and noted the accused had spent the entire weekend in custody which he had described as some of the “hardest days of his life”.

In response, Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt told Wright the offence he committed was “inappropriate and unacceptable”. She also told him that if someone did not want him, it was his responsibility to walk away.

Nevertheless, she said she believed a custodial sentence was not warranted in the circumstances and instead granted Wright a conditional discharge on the grounds that he would compensate the complainant for the damage he caused.

She also placed Wright on six months’ probation and warned him that if he failed to be of good behaviour during that time, he could risk spending eight weeks behind bars.

Wright was further ordered to attend anger management classes for three months and warned to stay off his ex-girlfriend’s property without permission.
