THE Bahamas Bodybuilders and Fitness Federation’s eight-member team returned yesterday from the Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador, over the weekend.

The team, managed by Nardo Dean, captured two gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

Wellington Wallace led the team’s performance with a pair of gold medals in the men’s physique and the men’s masters physique.

The silver medals came from Jason Johnson in the men’s physique, Jaye Darling Jr in the men’s muscular physique and Terrion Kemp in the men’s junior physique.

Winning the bronze medals were Gemo Smith in the men’s muscular physique, Kaif Young in the men’s tall class and Fania Joseph in the women’s bikini. Ashley Sturrup, the other member of the team, was sixth in the women’s bikini class. Federation president Joel Stubbs thanked the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture for their financial assistance in getting the team to the championships.

He also praised the bodybuilders for preparing themselves in the COVID-19 environment without any local competition to participate in.

The next CAC Championships is scheduled for Barbados in 2022 and the federation is hoping that they will be able to field a much larger team to compete.
