A MAN and woman who were accused of conspiring to sexually exploit two teenage girls through human trafficking will learn their new trial date on Friday.

Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt has set a fixture hearing for the resumption of Jamalaya Roberts’ and Shamika Rolle’s human trafficking and child pornography case.

Prosecutors alleged the pair conspired to engage in the trafficking of two 16-year-old girls earlier this year. At the time, they accused Rolle of creating nude video recordings of the teenagers and then distributing nude images of the minors on to the internet. Both accused were further charged with intentionally and unlawfully possessing the nude images of the minors.

After they denied the allegations, their case was adjourned to May 19 for trial.

However, during the first day of the proceedings, Rolle’s attorney requested an adjournment because she was in the last stages of her pregnancy and was not feeling well.

During her status hearing yesterday, Rolle told the magistrate that she had since given birth and was in a position to proceed with the matter.

According to Rolle, her baby is now two-months-old and staying with a family member while she remained in custody.

As a result, Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt adjourned the case to August 20 for a fixture hearing.

Both Rolle and Roberts will learn the date for the resumption of their trial at that time.

Crown attorney Eucal Bonaby and Sergeant Samantha Miah are prosecuting the matter.
