Butler pleased with progress of his Southwest Tennis Club

MICHAEL Butler is pleased with the progress his Southwest Tennis Club has made in bringing more awareness of the sport to the Flamingo Gardens community.

While he held daily training sessions there, Butler hosted a successful Flamingo Gardens Tennis Invitational Tournament, sponsored by the Southwest Tennis Club of Carmichael, over the August Monday holiday weekend.

Cory Francis emerged as the men’s title winner over Alejandro Mesples, while Amber Stubbs took the ladies’ title over Vanessa Ferguson.

Julian Robinson and Kendolyn Dean captured the mixed doubles crown over Marcus Miller and Vanessa Ferguson. “We had an excellent turnout. The enthusiasm was very high,” Butler said.

“We had people who normally play at different venues, so to have them come together and play against them for the first time was very exciting.”

Butler, however, said it was even more exciting for the Flamingo Gardens community because the residents got a chance to see some positive activity during the holiday weekend with some new faces participating.

The Southwest Tennis Club will be back in the Flamingo Gardens community over the weekend of August 28-29 with a doubles challenge for men and women.

Matches will begin on Saturday morning and conclude at 3pm on Sunday when the finals take place.
