A MAN was charged in the Magistrate’s court on Monday with attempted murder.

D’roy Mackey, 36, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney accused of trying to cause the death of Anthoine Hamilton on August 11.

He was arraigned with Vernique Simmons, 18, who was charged with being an accessory after the fact.

Police alleged that Simmons knew Mackey was the party to an offence and assisted him by enabling him to avoid the due process of the law.

Due to the nature of the offences, neither man was required to enter a plea and the case was adjourned to November 29 for service of a voluntary bill of indictment.

Mackey and Simmons were both denied bail and remanded into custody until that time.

They have a right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.

Yesterday, Mackey was also charged with dangerous drug possession with intent to supply after officers found 3.14 ounces of marijuana at his residence and in his car.

He owned up to the offence and was fined $700 or six months behind bars.
