A HAITIAN man who tried to fraudulently obtain valid Bahamian passports for his children pleaded guilty to the offence in Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Aland Bitar, 48, of Abaco stood before Magistrate Kendra Kelly charged with one count of conspiracy to commit fraud and two counts of attempted fraud by false pretences.

Police said the defendant, being concerned with another, tried to obtain two Bahamian passports from the Passport Office in the name of Alcie Bitar and Halthcy Bitar by means of false pretences sometime between March 1 and March 2.

He was also accused of conspiring to commit fraud between those same dates.

The 48-year-old pleaded guilty to all charges.

However, Magistrate Kelly deferred sentencing until December 14 to ascertain his status in the country as well as that of his children.

Bitar is represented by attorney Nathan Smith. Sergeant Vernon Pyfrom prosecuted the case.
