Suspect on murder charge

AN Eight Mile Rock man was charged in the Freeport Magistrate’s Court yesterday with murder.

Jaycee Jeffery Simmons, 23, of Pinedale, Eight Mile Rock, appeared before Magistrate Simone Brown where he was accused of causing the death of Charles Taylor Jr on October 26.

Taylor was at a local night spot when he and two others were shot.

Police Sergeant Garth McIntosh appeared as the prosecutor in yesterday’s arraignment.

Simmons was also charged with two counts of attempted murder. He is accused of attempting to kill Cosmel Samuels and Curtis Missick.

Simmons, who was not represented by an attorney, was not required to enter a plea to the charges.

His case was adjourned to April 4, 2022. He was denied bail.

In a separate case, a 28-year-old Eight Mile Rock resident was arraigned in connection with the murder of a juvenile last week.

Elpetio Keith Thompson, of Jones Town, Eight Mile Rock, appeared before Magistrate Brown charged with one count of abetment to murder.

It is alleged that on December 3, at Pinder’s Point, the accused purposely aided a man in the murder of 17-year-old Kevin Johnson.

Thompson was not represented by an attorney. He was not required to enter a plea to the charge.

His case was adjourned to April 4, 2022.
