A woman testified yesterday about how she made a complaint to police after being informed by a friend that her car had been damaged.

Precious Moss gave testimony against Alphonique Strachan, 21, during the latter’s trial before Magistrate Kendra Kelly.

Strachan is charged with causing damage and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon for actions she is accused of committing in May of last year.

Police allege the 21-year-old caused $2,154 worth of damage to a 2010 Honda car, belonging to Ms Moss and also assaulted Tyesha Williamson and Venique Jean with a motor vehicle on May 13 2020.

However, the defendant has denied the offences.

When Ms Moss took the stand yesterday, she recalled how she lent her car to a friend that night who she claimed wanted to visit another friend.

She said about ten minutes later, her friend called her saying the vehicle had been hit.

Asked by the prosecutor if she saw the vehicle, she replied in the affirmative.

Asked what she saw, Ms Moss explained that she noticed that her car’s rear bumper was hit as well as the backlight and front bumper. She said she also saw the car’s tyre was flattened.

Ms Moss said after seeing the damage, she made a police complaint.

Asked about the estimated cost of the damage, the witness told the court she received two estimated costs, one for around $2,000 and the other a little less than that.

Documents detailing the estimates were later shown to the witness, who confirmed her signature on the documents.

During cross examination, Strachan’s attorney asked Ms Moss if she agreed that she did not personally see what happened to her car.

She replied: “Yes ma’am.”

The defence attorney said she had no further questions and the matter was subsequently adjourned to January 24.
